Do you compromise your values to fit management demands? (130-3)
A simple definition of commitment is that a leader’s promises are maintained regardless of payback. Effective leaders understand they must make their commitments carefully. Read Psalm 145:1-21.
The message in Psalm 145 is that God deserves a leader’s complete commitment. David praises God for His goodness and His provision but he also makes it clear that leaders must walk in reckless abandon to God’s authority and principles. Since God is utterly faithful, limitless in power and glorious in majesty, He is worthy of a leader’s unconditional commitment.
It seems obvious that no sane person would commit to things that don’t really matter. When a leader wholeheartedly commits to anything less than a life-consuming ideal they are eventually disillusioned and disheartened with their choice. When a leader’s (or organization’s) goals and outcomes are properly related to the one true God and their activities honor Him, then commitment makes sense.
According to Psalm 145, when we commit to God we are committing to someone:
- Who is gracious and merciful!
- Whose acts are mighty!
- Whose Kingdom is everlasting!
- Whose dominion endures through all generations!
Do you find yourself compromising your values to fit modern day management demands? Wise leaders commit to values that will last.
