Do you embrace the disciplines and character from the book of Proverbs? (131-3)

Proverbs is all about the mind of a leader – how leaders think, how they perceive the future and their attitude toward wisdom. Read Proverbs 1:20-23.

Leaders think differently than followers. Good leaders see things before their team and they see beyond what their team sees. Whereas the team can focus on action steps that need to happen next week, the leader must think, envision, and plan well into the future.

Genesis 1:26-28 teaches us that every human was made to rule. Every person has the capacity to raise their level of leadership ability. Both leaders and followers can have good relational skills, strong character, and even strong personalities and a strong will. What separates leaders and followers is β€œhow” they think and perceive reality. Fuller seminary professor Bobby Clinton said, β€œThe primary difference between a follower and a leader is perspective. The primary difference between a leader and an effective leader is better perspective.”

What makes the book of Proverbs so profound for a leader is that it helps a leader improve the way they think and therefore act. It helps a leader get new perspectives on how they lead their own life and that translates into how they lead others. The book of Proverbs has wisdom principles that appear to be simple, yet when incorporated into truths to live by the result is very deep and profound. When you embrace the disciplines and character that Solomon suggests in the book of Proverbs these truths will transform you as a leader and will transform your leadership.
