Do your decisions reflect trust in God? (111-4)
When a leader has the wrong decision at the wrong time, it will equal a disaster. When a leader has the wrong decision at the right time, it will equal a mistake. When a leader has the right decision at the wrong time, it will look like an error in judgment. When a leader has the right decision at the right time, it will equal a success. Read 2 Chronicles 13:4-18.
Abijah replaced his father Rehoboam as king of Judah in the eighteenth year of the split kingdom. Jeroboam, king of the northern ten tribes quickly declared war on Judah hoping to exploit the new king and gain the rich southern part of Israel.
Abijah tried to warn the leaders of the northern kingdom against their folly in rebelling against the one true God of Israel. He made a courageous decision to point out the offenses against God by the northern kingdom, rallied support for his position by reminding them of their heritage and encouraged them to follow it.
Israel had twice the number of troops as Judah and with greater experience flanked the army of Judah which should have spelled disaster for Abijah’s forces. God delivered Judah from the northern kingdom and God honored Abijah’s decision.
Few things are more important to effective leadership than making the courageous decision when all is at stake. Godly leaders have a vision of who God is and what He holds for their future and the proof is in the decisions they make when everything except God’s promises says the plan will fail. When a godly leader has a sense of what God has called them to do, they have the potential to be very effective and confident in their leadership.
Psalm 119:59 “I have considered my ways and have turned my steps to your statutes.”
