What value do you put on communication? (125-5)

Effective leaders communicate using verbal and body language and everything else in their being. Read Psalm 19:1-6.

God is not only the ultimate leader but also the ultimate communicator. Often God uses language or vision to communicate to His people. There are also times when God uses miraculous signs or coincidence in timing or His written Word to get our attention and deliver a message that we understand and are expected to act upon. In Psalm 19:1-6 God uses another part of His nature to communicate in a general but very effective way. God uses the power, order and beauty of nature. Without speech or other forms of language the stars point beyond themselves to the God who created and sustains them. God uses His invisible power to communicate His divine nature.

General communication about your leadership is taking place just as surely as the stars are a general communication from God. Human leaders may not be able to hang the stars in the sky or have the sun rise and set every day but they demonstrate elements of order and consistency in their lives by showing up at work on time every day, having some order on their desk or in their toolbox or washing the car/truck when it is dirty. There are also some not-so-simple general communications like maintaining a balanced life of work and play, consistently demonstrating dedication to God and loving your family unconditionally, and even what you do in your spare time. These parts of leaders’ lives communicate volumes to the team about their ability to lead. Wise leaders understand and develop all forms of communication skills.

Just one more note about God’s communication to humans. God’s highest form of communication is His revelation of Jesus Christ. Hebrews 1:1-3 says, “In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word.” Because God has taken the initiative, He has made it possible for us to know Him, and He invites us to communicate with Him personally through prayer. If you have never met God through relationship with His son, take the time to look up these verses in the Bible and study them until you understand what they mean:

  1. Romans 3:23
  2. Romans 6:23
  3. Romans 5:8
  4. Romans 10:13
  5. Romans 10:9-10
  6. Revelation 3:20

You will never regret the time it takes to hear and understand this communication from God.
